NEW YEARS EVE
2014
and
Tuesday, December 31, 2013:
Eddie and I were welcoming friends into our home to ring in 2014. Preparing for the evening, Eddie and I went into our normal duties; Eddie was hard at work in the kitchen preparing food. I was procrastinating cleaning specific areas super slow. As well as we always plan it out, we never quite get done in time to relax before people start arriving. It's so us, but we finally get everything all done and are ready to go.
Our friends began to arrive and the party was in full swing. Around 11pm, I stepped away from the party to grab a little something in the closet; a handkerchief because I was sweating like I was back in Texas in August. Little did Eddie know, I had a surprise for him in my pants the whole time....THE RING.
Around 11:30pm, I pulled Eddie aside away from the party. I wanted to make sure to catch him before we got all crazy with ringing in the New Year. I told him I loved him very much, got on bended knee, and asked him quite simply, "Will You Marry Me?" He grinned from ear to ear and gave me a resounding, "YES!" We kissed and gave each other a huge bear hug.
We then quietly return to the party to make sure to be ready to officially ring in 2014. We decided to keep our engagement under wraps until after the ball dropped. Eddie and I start working to get all of the champagne glasses filled up and for the big toast. With about 2 minutes to spare, everyone has their glasses and we are set and ready to go. When I see Eddie turn his head, I very quickly pop the ring into his champagne glass.
3...2...1... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I give Eddie a quick kiss and everyone is rounding the party wishing one another a Happy New Year. Eddie was so excited, he started drinking his champagne quickly. I then grabbed his hand and asked him to look into the glass. That's when his face lit up and he was beaming. Like clockwork, everyone saw the ring as well and started congratulating us.
In a blink, we went from a New Years Party to an Engagement Party. We were supremely blessed and honored to have been surrounded by our friends. It was a nice, simple, perfect, and memorable evening.
